Long-haired dogs are a sight to see. They can have long silky hair that sweeps the floor, or a thick fluffy long coat. They turn eyes wherever they go. Every long-haired breed has great traits that will make them wonderful companions for any family. Dog with long hair require a lot of grooming. Daily brushing and regular trimming will prevent mats and keep your dog looking flawless. Here are 8 long hair breeds that may be your new best friend!

  1. Shih-tzu

Shih-Tzu’s are known for their long flowing double coat and their big round eyes. It’s hard not to fall in love with them! This small breed only grows to a height of 9-10 inches tall, and weighs between 9-16 pounds. Shih-Tzu’s come in a wide range of colors, including, white, black, brown, and a number of different color combinations. They make great apartment dogs and don’t mind spending lots of time indoors due to their low tolerance of heat. They have a friendly nature, and are outgoing and bold.

2. Maltese

These little dogs have a long white coat that is soft and hypoallergenic. They stand at 10 inches tall and weigh between 4-8 pounds. They are a playful pooch that loves to cuddle with their people. They need regular baths to keep their white hair clean. They do well with having a small area or yard to play in.

3. Yorkshire Terrier

Also known as a Yorkie, the Yorkshire Terrier is a small dog weighing between 4-8 pounds. They are known for their glossy straight hair that usually comes in a black/tan (traditional) color. 6. Havanese

The Havanese is very outgoing and friendly, families enjoy having them in their homes. They love going out with their families on adventures. They have a soft silky coat that comes in various different colors. Although they are small thy enjoy long walks and lots of playtime to stay fit. This dog is is a sight to see. They have an aristocratic air and a independent nature. Weighing in at 50-60 pounds Afghan Hounds have a high energy requirement. 8. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

This dog is affectionate and smart and eager to please. This makes them easy to train. They have a rich soft coat and big eyes. They shed occasionally and require daily brushing to prevent mats on their medium-long coat. They come in 4 colors, white with chestnut markings, white with black markings, black and tan, and ruby ( a rich red color).
