5 Dog Care Tips

Dogs are the cutest and most loving pet you could have. Everything from their puppy eyes to their wiggling tail and wet noses is perfect. Caring for your dog is the most important thing that you shouldn’t take for granted. They depend on you to keep up with their hygiene and keep them healthy. And in return you’ll have a dog that’ll love you unconditionally for forever!

Here are 5 tips every pet parent should know:

  1. Feed a high quality food.

It may be tempting to give your dog human food but that may not always be the best idea. While some human foods are safe and good for dogs on occasion, sharing a piece of your meals with them is not ideal. Talk with your veterinarian to see which food is best for your dog. A general tip is to look at the ingredients list on a food bag. The first few ingredients should be meat products, not corn, grain or meat by-product. Also make sure your dog always has access to clean drinking water.

2. Spend time with you pooch

Dogs love spending time with their people, they don’t like feeling left out. Playtime is very important, indoors or outdoors. Toys are fun but they can’t replace your presence. Nothing fancy is needed, some belly rubs and a cuddle on the couch will do. Your dog will love you all the more if you include them in your daily activities.

3. Grooming

Grooming is very important for your dog. It can be done by yourself or a dog groomer. Grooming typically consists of a bath, brushing, nail trim, and cleaning of the ears and paw pads. Some dogs require more grooming depending on the breed. It’s important to start the grooming routine when your dog is young so they get accustomed to it. Even if you have a low-maintenance breed you should get them used to having their nails trimmed and being brushed to avoid stressing them out later. A well groomed dog is a happy dog!

4. Exercise

Exercise is important for all dogs to help keep them in shape. Some breeds require more or less exercise. All dogs benefit from regular daily walks. More active dogs enjoy going on hikes, runs and taking trips to the park. Less active breeds enjoy playing in a backyard, or chasing toys inside. Talk to your vet about how much exercise your dog should have. And remember to carry water with you to prevent dehydration.

5. Have a qualified Vet

It’s important to have a vet that is knowledgeable about your dogs breed. Your vet should be able to answer any questions you have about your dog. Regular checkups are important for your dogs health. And keeping up with your dogs vaccines is just as important. Your vet will recommend the proper flea/tick as well as heartworm prevention to keep your dog in tiptop shape.
